Good

I know it's hard to get back into writing music after an absence, but this isn't a bad piece. If there was more of a distinct melody and perhaps a development section, I could see it in a car commercial or perhaps an odd video game. You FL people make me jealous. :)

Erk...

It's okay. I think you should try something other than a fadeout to end a piece. It's rather a copout when it is used for every piece. Also, I think you should try writing a piece that relies on its chords, rather than constant motion. What you do is useful, but you must be flexible as well.

Petwoip responds:

Yeah, I have done fadeout many times. Thanks for the constructive critisism, I will use it in the future.

Eh...

Not bad, truly. Personally, I would express "sleep" with a bunch of disjointed but pleasing ideas, not just one that grows and becomes more complex. But that's just me.

This is an acceptable A part, but it needs at least one other section to set it off.

You're plenty good enough at variation, you need much longer themes.

Petwoip responds:

Yeah, I guess I never thought of that when I named the song, but oh well. I'm going to listen to your advice and try to make my themes longer.

Thanks for the review and the constructive critisism.

Very good, but misleading

It's a top-notch remix, but it is not a concerto. It's a piano solo. You might call it a piano sonata, at a stretch. But there were no musical faux pas, and that's rather rare at this place.

Not too bad

Pretty straightforward. Really needed a big break in the steadiness. Like, everything drops out and there's an intense soprano solo or something like that. Then the guitar comes back in with heavy eighth-note chords on 1 and 4. Then it loops back and finishes sweet. That would rock ass, in my personal opinion.

P.S. I'll give you a monopoly dollar to jam over to my page and feedback something.

'Salright...

Not a bad piece. I think it would definitely have benefitted from some Bachness, though. It seemed to want to become a fugue, but fugues can be really hard to do well. I politely suggest you go out and blow some hard-earned cash on Glenn Gould's recording of the Well-Tempered Clavier. Just listening to bits and pieces of that spiced up my classical piano ideas.

Elfman+Beethoven

Sounds like a Beethoven bassline with an early Danny Elfman line on top. Pretty high praise from a guy whose two favorite composers are Beethoven and Elfman.

Bad-Atom responds:

Thanks,

Danny Elfman is a huge influence on some of my more cartoony themes, so I guess that came through there. :)

Not bad

Not too bad for a first attempt. You might try spacing out the chord changes a little where the phrases get a little hard to divine. There's definitely a lovely theme in there, it just needs to be brought out and realized.

It's-a pretty good...

You're as good as any at developing and recapitulating ideas. That said, I think you might benefit from spending more time streamlining and improving those original thoughts. The very beginning (the most important part, in my opinion) was uninteresting. Try beginning with a note-against-note kind of texture, rather than a figurated one. Keep it simple, my homie.

Very good.

NDP responds:

Im not quite sure what you meant, but i apprecciate you taking the time to write, if it helps, these were compositions before i started studying incomposition at MgIll :) I only put these cause its always fun to hear where someone started, and some are good :P

Anyways thanx for writing

Nicolas..

Cool

I like this. It's courageous without hubris, and avoids the many pitfalls of new-age-ish piano. It gave me the impression every measure had been considered, and many of them reworked several times. This is a high form of praise, from me. That your effort shows quite clearly.

I would be glad to hear some more...
